ke4 255x300 Interview with K.E. on the Track (Produced for Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, Future) Kevin “K.E. on the Track” Erondu broke onto the scene in 2009 when he produced the unexpected hit “Swag Surfin” for F.L.Y. Since then, “K.E.” has went on to produce for some of the biggest names in the Hip-Hop including Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, Gucci Mane, Soulja Boy, Future, 2 Chainz and the list goes on.

In our “Q&A” with “K.E. on the Track“, he talks about how he is still prospering even though the music industry is declining, gives advice for upcoming producers and more.

F.L.Y. was unknown prior to “Swag Surfin“, did you think that song was going to get as big as it did?

K.E: No i didn’t at all.

You produced the track “I’m so Blessed” on DJ Khaled’s latest album, Kiss The Ring, featuring Big Sean, Wiz Khalifa, Ace Hood & T- Pain, how did that placement come about?

K.E: That placement came about after i produced Rick Ross’s Single ” You The Boss ” ft. Nicki Minaj. He asked me to send him some beats for his album and so i did.. months later he called and told me congrats i made the cut.

Do you have a manager? or do you manage yourself in regards to getting placements?

K.E: I manage myself for the most part.

Working with so many artist and creating so many different beats, how do you stay inspired to create new music?

K.E: I stayed inspired by listening to the music around me..Not only am i a producer of music, im also a fan of it.

Do you think you work better when you are able to vibe with a artist in the studio? or do you prefer to work remotely?

K.E : I prefer both actually.. I like to be well rounded.

Is there any artists that you have not gotten a chance to work with, that would like to work with?

K.E : Lady Gaga

Do you have any “go to” VST’s or keyboards that you find yourself always using?

K.E : Heliosonic , Hypersonic , Motif Keyboard, etc

With the numbers dwindling in music sales and with artists budgets declining, as a producer does that bother you?

K.E: No because i strive for singles and so that’s what i mainly get..every single i have ever got placed has generated and sold more than the Album. So i do get to see a good bit of money. I’m sure if i only gotten album placements i would have a totally different answer.

Do you see yourself in a role beyond producing some day?

K.E: Yes i do. I do now. Most of the money i make isn’t even from music

What other avenues are you generating money from?

K.E: I own a shoe store and a Avis rental car company. I also invest into stocks.

Out of all the hits you have had, which track are you most happy with?

K.E: I’m not happy with any of them because they have yet to go number 1 on the charts

What projects are you currently working on?

K.E: Futures second album , Jeezy , French Montana , Eminem , Kirko bangz , Tamar Braxton , etc

What advice can you give an up and coming producer trying to break into the game today?

K.E: You will make it faster when you have an original sound and drum kit that doesn’t sound like the rest.
